This is my newest book sculpture, made out of “The Book Thief” by Marcus Zusak. It’s a little hard to see in the photos, but it’s Death in the center, reading a book called “Death and Liesel.” Around him are scattered other books, each made with a title of a chapter from the book. In the lower left corner lies Papa’s accordion. In the front center is the quote:
"The Book Thief—Last Line
I have hated the words and I have loved them, and I hope I have made them right
Now I know that in the book, Death is specifically described as NOT looking like the grim reaper. However, one has to take some artistic liberties sometimes when making these things, and I could not for the life of me think of anything else to do. Each book is made out of the title of a chapter, and I have Death reading “Death and Liesel,” which I think is fitting. A book titled “The Book Thief” is laying on the right of Death.
I welcome any and all feedback, EXCEPT any negative comments about “destroying” a book…. I’ve had this conversation too many times to have it again. Other than that, please let me know what you think!
